Resident Evil 3 Remake

2020 PS4PS5Xbox OneXbox Series X|SPC

Set alongside and prior to the events of RE2, S.T.A.R.S. survivor Jill Valentine attempts to escape Raccoon City while being relentlessly hunted by the Nemesis — a T-Type bioweapon deployed specifically to eliminate S.T.A.R.S. members. Jill meets Carlos Oliveira, a mercenary working for Umbrella's counter-bioterrorism unit, who ultimately turns against his employer. The remake emphasizes kinetic, action-heavy pacing and Nemesis encounters that are partially evasion-based and partially combat-based. Carlos's hospital section is widely considered the game's high point.

IGN 83/100

"RE3 Remake is a fast-paced, beautifully produced experience that suffers from being too short and too linear. What's there is excellent — Jill's characterization, Nemesis encounters, and production value are all first class. It just needed more."

Eurogamer 80/100

"If RE2 Remake was Alien, RE3 Remake is Aliens — louder, more action-oriented, and genuinely brilliant despite omitting key elements from the original. Jill steals the show."

Gamespot 80/100

"Resident Evil 3 is a focused, well-crafted action-horror game that would be better remembered if it wasn't compared to its exceptional predecessor. On its own terms it's excellent — just short."

Digital Trends 90/100

"RE3 Remake is the most cinematic Resident Evil game ever made. Every encounter with Nemesis feels like a monster movie set piece. Jill's comeback tour is everything fans could want."

TweakTown 91/100

"RE3 Remake feels like an experience rather than just a game. Among the best RE entries because of Nemesis — the encounter design makes it a highlight of the franchise."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is RE3 Remake worth playing after RE2 Remake?

Yes, but manage expectations — RE3 Remake is significantly shorter (5–7 hours) and more action-focused than RE2 Remake. It is best understood as a companion piece. Jill's story directly precedes RE2's events and her characterization is excellent. The Carlos hospital sequence is outstanding. Players who want the full 1998 Raccoon City story should play both.

How long is RE3 Remake?

RE3 Remake is the shortest of the modern RE remakes — approximately 5–7 hours on a first playthrough. New Game+ runs can be completed in 2–3 hours. The short length was the most common criticism from reviewers.

Does RE3 Remake include a multiplayer mode?

Yes — RE Resistance, an asymmetric 4v1 online multiplayer mode, was bundled with RE3 Remake at launch. Four survivors compete against a Mastermind who controls traps, enemies, and the environment. The servers remain active as of 2026.

Is Nemesis more dangerous than Mr. X in RE2 Remake?

Nemesis is more aggressive and has a wider range of attacks — tentacle ranged attacks, a rocket launcher, a flamethrower in later stages, and the ability to pursue across area transitions. Mr. X in RE2 Remake is more consistently terrifying because he is present for longer. Nemesis has higher spectacle; Mr. X creates more sustained dread.
