Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
Civilian Ethan Winters travels to a derelict Louisiana plantation to rescue his missing wife Mia, who disappeared three years earlier. The Baker family — Jack, Marguerite, Lucas, and the grandmother — have been taken over by a fungal bioweapon called Eveline, a biologically engineered girl with the ability to control organisms through the Mold. Ethan must survive the Bakers, explore the estate, solve puzzles, and ultimately confront Eveline herself. RE7 marked a dramatic series reinvention — returning to survival horror roots, first-person perspective, and intimate horror after the action-heavy RE5 and RE6.
Review Scores
"RE7 is a terrifying return to form. The Baker house is one of gaming's most memorable horror environments, and the shift to first-person perspective creates an intimacy with the horror that third-person RE games never achieved."
"Resident Evil 7 is the bravest thing Capcom has done in years. Tearing down the bloated action game the series had become and rebuilding it as a lean, focused, terrifying experience — it's exactly what the franchise needed."
"Biohazard is a superb horror experience. The Baker family are genuinely frightening antagonists. The combination of puzzle-solving, resource management, and atmospheric tension is the best balance the series has achieved since RE4."
"A masterwork of environmental horror. The RE Engine's debut showcases extraordinary fidelity that makes every rotting floorboard and flickering bulb feel real. Jack Baker alone is worth the asking price."
"Resident Evil 7 is the most purely frightening game in the series. The first-person perspective eliminates the safety of distance. You cannot just run away — Dulvey won't let you."

Frequently Asked Questions
Is RE7 connected to the other Resident Evil games?
Yes — RE7 is fully canon to the mainline RE universe. It introduces Ethan Winters as a new protagonist and features Chris Redfield in the ending. The Mold organism and Eveline were developed by a pharmaceutical company with ties to Umbrella research. RE Village directly continues from RE7's ending.
Can RE7 be played in VR?
Yes — RE7 launched with full PSVR1 support and was later updated for PSVR2. Playing in VR is widely considered one of the most intense horror VR experiences available. The first-person perspective translates perfectly to VR. PC VR support was added through a mod community update.
How long is Resident Evil 7?
A first playthrough takes approximately 8–12 hours on Normal difficulty. The Not a Hero DLC adds 2–3 hours. End of Zoe adds 2–4 hours. Madhouse difficulty playthroughs with altered item positions take significantly longer on first attempt.
What is Madhouse difficulty in RE7?
Madhouse is RE7's hardest difficulty, unlocked after completing the game once. It features drastically different item placements, more aggressive enemy behavior, limited Autosaves (must use Antique Coins at save points like RE Classic Ink Ribbons), and enemies that can withstand significantly more damage. It is required for the Completionist trophy set.
Should I play RE7 or RE Village first?
Play RE7 first. Village directly continues Ethan's story and assumes knowledge of RE7's ending, Mia's backstory, and the nature of the Mold. While Village is technically playable as a standalone, the emotional impact of its story depends heavily on caring about Ethan — which requires playing RE7.
