Classic Resident Evil save mechanic returned for Insanity difficulty. On Standard and Classic, saves are free at typewriters. On Insanity, each save costs one Ink Ribbon. Found in the environment and purchasable from the Merchant for 500 Credits each on Insanity.

Found: Wrenwood Hotel Room 102 (x2), Care Center Director's Office desk (x1), Care Center Basement Electrical Room (x1), RPD Captain's Office (x2), Orphanage Chapel (x1), ARK Loading Bay (x2). Merchant sells unlimited Ink Ribbons at 500 Credits each on Insanity. All chapters (Insanity).
Expert Tips
On Insanity difficulty, always buy 3–4 Ink Ribbons at each Merchant visit. Save at every typewriter before a boss fight and after completing a major puzzle or collectible pickup. The Insanity Awaits trophy requires only completing the first playthrough on any difficulty — Ink Ribbons are only needed if you choose to start your second run on Insanity.
