Mortal Edge
The Mortal Edge is an Umbrella-issue combat hatchet dropped exclusively by The Commander boss upon defeat. It has the same parry mechanic as Leon's standard Hatchet but with significantly higher base power and a longer durability bar. Its blade is reinforced carbon steel with a weighted spine for heavier impacts — the design is clearly military-grade compared to the standard Hatchet's utility origin. The Mortal Edge is the highest-damage melee weapon available to Leon in standard gameplay (excluding the Bonus Content RPG-7 and Mortar). Its Lv.3 Improved Grip upgrade extends the parry timing window marginally — useful for Insanity difficulty where boss attacks have tighter parry windows. It cannot be sold or transferred to Grace.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get the Mortal Edge?
The Mortal Edge is dropped by The Commander boss in the Raccoon City Sewers. It is a guaranteed drop — The Commander always drops it upon defeat regardless of difficulty or playstyle. It can also be purchased from the Bonus Content shop for 3,000 CP if missed.
Should I upgrade the Mortal Edge over the Hatchet?
Yes — once you have the Mortal Edge, invest your Credits into it rather than the Hatchet. The Mortal Edge has higher base power and durability at equivalent upgrade levels. The Hatchet's Mr. Raccoon-based upgrades are free, so complete that collection before spending Credits on melee upgrades.
